North Point

"Once you're at the upper deck, the world seems to be calm and quiet, as if you are 'in the air." The first double-deck tramcar was introduced in 1912. The upper deck was open-top with garden seats design reserved for first-class customers.

"I pass by this bridge every day. Fortress Hill can be a chaotic place, but when looking from the bridge, it almost feels like things have come to a standstill. You can see through the urban mess, the tram taking the spotlight."

Its quirky design with parabole rooftop arches is unique in Asia, and even in the world. Hong Kong's oldest surviving post-war standalone theatre has been here in North Point since 1952. The iconic State Theatre carries special memories for so many Hong Kong people 01 ; when a developer wanted to take it down, it resulted in a spontaneous outcry. Not only is it still there, it is now a listed building.
